Question 1: How do you see the construction industry in the year 2023? Do you think this year will be a “digital year” for construction professionals?

2023 is a year of innovation and a digital year. During the fourth quarter of last year, while researching for a blog article, I discovered there are 37 ways artificial intelligence is already being used in construction, with new technologies coming online at record speed.

Just a few years back, we would sporadically run into Construction Managers that were not technology savvy. Now everyone from trades to senior management and all ages are required to be tech secure, open to learning, and embrace evolving technology to do their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

Question 2: The construction industry has undergone dynamic changes over the years. What do you consider the biggest challenge for this industry now?

The biggest challenge for this industry now is the need for more communication. Construction is a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Although technology has enhanced the ability to manage project data, managers can get caught up on the reporting side and overlook the importance of verbal collaboration and understanding constructability to be at the top of their industry.

Question 3: What potential do you see in the latest construction technology trends? Are they capable of boosting the productivity of construction professionals?

The latest trends in technology boost productivity if the people using the technology are trained not only in the new technology but how that technology fits into the overall workflow and expectations for their role.

Suppose the technology is not designed as one size fits all, and modifications can be made for the contractor without compromising the success of the installation itself. Selecting the right person to train, who understands the company processes and the software capabilities, and the optimal integration of both makes all the difference.

Question 4: Where do you see the construction industry in the next five years? Please share your valuable insights with our readers.

In the next five years, I see the construction industry embracing soft skill training as necessary to enhance the overall industry workforce further. Executives implementing this training will create synergy between the personnel specializing in constructability and those needed to support the technological advancements.

Often those with computer technological interest and expertise are not directly involved with the building of projects and don’t always take time themselves to learn industry specifics that will enhance their career success working within our industry. In the book “Happily Married To Your Employer” and my weekly blog written for the industry, I share perspectives from both an employer and employee side.
