Who Did We Interview?
Matt Verderamo is the Vice President, preconstruction and sales, at a construction firm. He coaches business development and senior-level managers on how to build daily writing habits on LinkedIn to accelerate career growth.
In addition to his LinkedIn presence, he manages a blog, Talkingshopmv.com, which caters to young leaders, ambitious professionals, and story-telling enthusiasts.
With his expertise in managing, leading, and driving strategic growth, he oversees a team of 10+ individuals and has doubled his form's revenue in the last six years.
Despite the fact the construction industry continues to face many of the same challenges it has for years - staffing problems, volatile interest rates, lack of productivity, and an aging workforce, to name a few - I see opportunity and change on the horizon in 2023.
Whether it's improved technology, AI, mental health, diversity, equity, inclusion, or safety, construction professionals are pushing for positive change. However, as this change gains momentum, we need to leverage better technology and new ways of doing things.
41% of the construction workforce is expected to retire by 2031. So the biggest challenge for the industry is replacing all that knowledge and still being able to build quality buildings.
If leveraged correctly, of course, technology will boost productivity. The potential comes from integrating programs and processes that normally require redundant data entry or manual labor (think submittals, invoicing, RFIs, takeoffs, and estimates).
More and more focus will go into the preconstruction process. Everything else - schedule, budget, and quality metrics - is downstream of preconstruction. Therefore, I see the construction industry becoming more strategic, with firms becoming better planners and more collaborative.
Better mental health.
