The construction industry has been significantly impacted by the aftereffects of the pandemic, inflation, and other challenges. The pandemic led to labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, and project delays, affecting the industry.

The industry is also grappling with sustainability concerns, such as the need for more energy-efficient buildings and infrastructure, which has pressured construction companies to adopt new technologies and methods.

So to shed some light on the same, we interviewed the industry expert, Jonathan Cor, to help our audience understand the advantages of technology in the construction industry.

Let Us Quickly Get To Our Expert’s Point Of View.

Question 1: How do you see the construction industry in the year 2023? Do you think this year will be a "digital year" for construction professionals?

As with anything in our industry, there is a slow but steady digital/technological adoption. I believe that younger leaders and executives are leading the charge in this area. How do I know this? People who reach out to me for help with social media marketing are between the ages of 30 and 40. They understand its importance and want a leg up on the older contractors who still need to get there in their adoption.

Question 2: The construction industry has undergone dynamic changes over the years. What do you consider as the biggest challenge for this industry now?

The labor shortage is likely the biggest challenge for our industry. Parents and teachers preaching that working in the trades isn't a career has hurt our industry. I believe that in order to attract younger and new people to our industry, we have to leverage digital avenues like social media to get in front of them. Show them that our industry is a great place to work and build a career in. Contractors that don't will soon be doomed to suffer the most from our current labor shortage.

Question 3: What potential do you see in the latest construction technology trends? Are they capable of boosting the productivity of construction professionals?

The construction industry is slow to change. Therefore, the ConTech companies that learn how to make tech adoption the easiest and smoothest will likely win now and into the future.

But I will see them running into how you get in front of them in a way that isn't salesy, or all focused on themselves. I think that's where the power of social media comes in. I know this because I'm currently running this playbook with a few ConTech companies.

Question 4: Where do you see the construction industry in the next five years? Please share your valuable insights with our readers.

It's hard to make any predictions for our industry after undergoing a pandemic, inflation, interest rates, banking collapses, and more. But in light of that reality, I see a future where the BEST contractors focus on building a strong brand.

A brand that doesn't compete on cost but instead competes on value. How do they do this? By doing the best work, with great people, in a great culture, and with happy clients. This is why we still know names like Bechtel, Fluor, and Turner. They've built strong brands that have stood the test of time.

Question 5: In four words or less, what's your prediction about the transforming construction industry?

Leverage tech and digital.

Question 6: What's your success mantra?

I don't have a definitive success mantra, per se. But the recent written statement on my desk is:

Don't play scared.

It's easy to be crippled in fear of failure, what others may say or think, or your self-doubts. This reminds me that I get to build or create something every day and not squander that opportunity. Go all in.
